Sixty-one percent say all or most abortion should be illegal

According to a new Gallup poll, sixty-one percent of American adults—including some who describe themselves as “pro-choice”—that abortion should be illegal in all or most circumstances. However, the poll did find that forty-nine percent of respondents considered themselves pro-choice, with forty-five percent identifying as pro-life, the first time pro-choice has eclipsed pro-life since May 2008. Only twenty-seven percent though abortion should be legal under any circumstances whatsoever, while about 71 percent said they thought abortion should be illegal in at least some cases. The survey also found 51 percent believed abortion was morally wrong, with 39 percent referring to it as “morally acceptable.” Gallup conducted the survey of 1,018 American adults between May 5-8.
