DOMA gets its defender

Former Solicitor General Paul Clement has been tapped by House Republicans to defend the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) following the Obama Justice Department’s decision to abort its constitutionally required duty to defend DOMA against legal challenges. Speaker Boehner sent a letter to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi saying that he will push for legal expenses to defend the law to come out of the Justice Department’s budget with the DOJ “no longer needing the funds it would have otherwise expended defending the constitutionality of DOMA.” MFI filed an amicus brief in one of the cases challenging DOMA.
