Gambling industry to invade Beacon Hill Tuesday
Monday June 07, 2010 - 10:36 AM
A reminder from Kris Mineau about Tuesday's State Senate Ways and Means Committee hearing for the public on the legalization of slot machines and casinos in Massachusetts. The hearing will be held in Gardner Auditorium at the State House beginning at 1:00 PM.
Friends,

A reminder that tomorrow, Tuesday, June 8 at 1:00 PM, the State Senate Ways and Means Committee will be holding its only hearing for the public on the legalization of slot machines and casinos in Massachusetts. The hearing will be held in Gardner Auditorium at the State House beginning at 1:00 PM.
Due to the short notice of the hearing, it is understandably difficult for many people to get there. However, if it is possible for you to come and you have a personal story that you can share about how gambling has impacted you or someone you know, the Ways and Means Committee needs to hear it. Our legislators and the Governor must understand the devastation that passage of either the Senate or House bill would have on the families of Massachusetts.
If you cannot be at the hearing, it is critical that legislators get flooded with calls and emails so they know that people care deeply about this issue. Please take a few minutes to register your opposition to this wild goose chase for fool’s gold, a chase that is diverting the state’s energy from real and positive solutions to the problems facing our economy and families.
After the hearing, the Senate plans on debating the bill around June 23-24 and then will likely vote on it. Tomorrow’s hearing is an important milestone for our voices to be heard.
Casinos and slot machines are NOT INEVITABLE. Legislators are understandably nervous about upsetting voters these days as they face the November elections. They need to know how you feel, and tomorrow is an opportunity to make a big difference in the future of our state. Massachusetts does not need a casino culture that adds no value to the state and guarantees a marked increase in social ills.
For our families,

Kris Mineau
