Friends, On June 14, 2007, the Massachusetts Legislature made a mockery of the citizen petition process and the institution of marriage in one politically motivated vote at the Constitutional Convention. In an extra bit of irony, June 14th is also Flag Day, a day to celebrate the symbol that has come to represent freedom and liberty around the world, but especially here at home. This June 14th, I am personally challenging you to commemorate the day the Legislature told the citizens of Massachusetts that they are not to be trusted with a vote on the definition of marriage by donating to the Values Surge. In the three years since that fateful day, MFI has refused to do that. Instead, we have led the fight against the opponents of traditional family values, especially the flawed and dangerous “Bathroom Bill,” while constantly working towards the ultimate goal of putting marriage on the ballot. I am asking you to once again invest in the critical work that MFI is doing on a daily basis. Without MFI blowing the whistle on the “Bathroom Bill,” it would have been approved by the Legislature without any media coverage or a critical eye.
