Lura Mineau's Mother's Day Message
Friday May 07, 2010 - 02:02 AM
On Sunday, families across the country will celebrate Mother’s Day. What a wonderful day of honoring the most influential women in the world - MOTHERS! Who doesn't remember the special kiss that eased the pain of a scratched knee, the "you can do it" when no one else believed you could or the beautiful smile when you delivered a hand picked "weed bouquet". We do honor and thank all the special Moms for their unconditional love and support.
Friends,
On Sunday, families across the country will celebrate Mother’s Day. What a wonderful day of honoring the most influential women in the world - MOTHERS! Who doesn’t remember the special kiss that eased the pain of a scratched knee, the ‘you can do it’ when no one else believed you could or the beautiful smile when you delivered a hand picked ‘weed bouquet’. We do honor and thank all the special Moms for their unconditional love and support.
The Lord has blessed Kris and me with four children, and ten grandchildren, all of whom are the loves of our lives. We raised our children to honor and cherish the institution of marriage - that most wonderful union of a man and a woman - because we know how critical it is that a child have a loving mother and father.
For 20 years, Massachusetts Family Institute has stood up for mothers on Beacon Hill and around the state. A few examples that come to mind:
- Motivating parental participation amongst young, single fathers through the “Dad’s the Man” program in communities with high out-of-wedlock births.
- Advocating for women’s health bills, including Laura’s Law, which protects expecting women by ensuring that they are fully informed about the risks and the alternatives to abortion.
- Defending the rights of mothers (and fathers) to direct the moral upbringing of their children through strong parental rights legislation.
- Helping young women prevent early motherhood through abstinence programs in public schools that arm teenage girls with the refusal skills and self-confidence to resist peer pressure.
I do not need to tell you about the importance of mothers in the lives of children. Social science studies have repeatedly proven the need for both a motherly and fatherly influence in the proper development of children, and this is why MFI has fought so relentlessly to restore and preserve the institution of marriage.
I encourage you to consider becoming an MFI Partner today. By pledging a monthly gift, you are directly helping MFI continue to stand up for mothers, women and families at the State House. I am an MFI Partner because I have seen firsthand the invaluable work that MFI does on a daily basis.
Finally, I want to wish all the mothers reading this message a happy and blessed Mother’s Day. Thank you for all that you are doing to raise the next generation with strong moral values.
For our families,
Lura Mineau
P.S. If you cannot commit to a recurring donation today, please consider a one-time gift of any amount to help MFI. You can simply leave the recurring option box unchecked. Thank you.
