In the wake of disaster

Friends of the Family,

Labor Day is upon us once again! Although the leaves are not yet changing, it won’t be long before pumpkins and apple cider replace the sun tan lotion and lemonade. But with so many people around the state, and all over New England, still struggling in the wake of Tropical Storm Irene, I want to take this opportunity to make a few reflections.

The quickest and easiest way to assist with the cleanup and rebuilding of lives after Irene is to donate to the American Red Cross. You can make a financial donation, a donation of blood, and even volunteer. CLICK HERE to find out more.

We should also continue to pray for those without electricity, and those affected by the historic flooding in Vermont and other places. In these times of need, it is important that the community as a whole comes together to help our neighbors, and we need to lift them up in prayer.

The first responders, police, firefighters and the utility crews working around the clock to keep us safe and restore power should be applauded for their work since Sunday. I am sure that it is hard for some people without power to think the utility companies are doing their job, but the widespread nature of the damage along the East Coast overwhelmed their capabilities.

Let us be grateful as they continue to labor on our behalf this weekend, even as most of us have an extra day off from work on Monday. I wish you and your family a happy and safe Labor Day.

For our families,

Kris

P.S. Due to some technical issues with our online ticketing, as well as the ongoing power issues due to Tropical Storm Irene, MFI has extended the early bird pricing for the 20th Anniversary Gala through next Tuesday, September 6. The early bird options will no longer be available beginning next Wednesday. Please take this opportunity to save $25 off either individual tickets, or the VIP Package. Visit www.mafamily.org/gala to buy your tickets today!
