October is a scary month

Dear Friends of the Family,

Many of you would agree with me that October is one of the best, if not the best months in New England. With a mix of warm days that remind us of summer and chilly nights that warn of winter to come, the weather is perfect for enjoying quintessential New England activities of apple picking, hayrides and, of course, viewing the foliage.

However, there is something scary in October, and I’m not talking about Halloween.

October is LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) History Month, one more way for gay activists to get their propaganda into schools, onto television and into the mainstream. Part of this “celebration” is National Coming Out Day (NCOD, October 11), when young people are encouraged to be “proud of who you are” and to be “an active voice for LGBT equality.”

Parents and grandparents need to be extra vigilant during October, as school assemblies and teacher-led activities will take place, especially during NCOD week. We have already heard from some insiders that schools plan to bring PFLAG (Parents, Families & Friends of Lesbians and Gays) into school for assemblies. And though these assemblies are “voluntary,” one email from an administrator strongly encouraged teachers to “bring your students, particularly freshman and sophomores.”

These assemblies fall into a gray area as far as statewide parental notification law. The current “Opt-In” law requires schools to notify parents of any curriculum or events involving human sexuality. But many school systems have adopted their own local policies for events with guest speakers from organizations that promote homosexuality. This makes it even more important for parents to call the school administrators and inquire about any events and assemblies that will be held during October and NCOD week.

Our opponents have become bolder in what they are putting into schools, and activist teachers and administrators are becoming ever more accommodating to their demands and “offers.” Though MFI is working to stay on top of these threats, parents are first line of defense.

We need your help to identify local policies and gay-themed events. Please CLICK HERE to let us know what the notification policies for events are for your child’s school system so that we may compile a list. Also, please use the same form to report what you know about the anti-family events coming to the school in October.

For our families,
